Every month, the students in Main Street participate in a "giving project" that is specifically designed to get children of God involved in giving back what they have been given. Sometimes these projects are financial in nature; other times they are collecting environments. This monthly exercise continually teaches the Main Street students of the needs of others.

Northwoods Pregnancy Resource Center
February & March 2010 Giving Project

We joined the Northwoods Pregnancy Resource Center in their Baby Bottle Campaign to raise money for the Center's various needs.  It was a change offering each week and we made a contest - boys versus girls.  It went back and forth each week, but the girls came out on top winning 4 out of the 6 weeks as well as the cumulative total!

Boys = $42.95
Girls = $77.86

Total = $120.81

Coin Drive for the Reissners
March 2008 Giving Project

For the month of March the Main Street crew brought in coins and paper money for the Reissner's upcoming move to Camp Forest Springs' Leadership Training Development program.  Ryan, Heather, Zoe, and Maia Reissner are close friends of Hayward Wesleyan Church and the Followers ministry, Alpha, and worship.  In order to help them with their school and living expenses, Main Street decided to raise money for them for the month of March.  The students participated in a coin drive (boys against girls).  I don't remember who won, but in five weeks the Main Street students raised $175.28 for our friends the Reissners!

Can Drive for the Food Shelf
February 2008 Giving Project

For the month of February, the Main Street students collected cans for the Hayward Wesleyan Church's food shelf.  The goal was to raise 200 lbs. of food.  Each week we would weigh the amount of cans the boys and the girls brought and would determine who won for that week.  The boys got smashed by the girls!  However, the boys rallied at one point and brought enough cans one week to beat the girls.

All in all the students collect well over 200 lbs. of cans for the food shelf!
